Indian Missionary Church - Church Planting

Church planting is the heartbeat of Gilgal Gospel Mission.  All of our ministries are targeted to accomplish this single purpose. Gilgal Gospel Mission works to plant churches in the rural villages of India. These villages are home to some of the most marginalized people in the world. They are known as Untouchables or Dalits.

These people are alienated from the four main castes- Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and Sudras.  The Dalits are deprived of many of their rights and freedoms in the Hindu caste system.  They often live outside of civilized society, in slums and other rural areas of India. It is among these people that Gilgal Gospel Mission works to spread the gospel.

How Does Gilgal Gospel Mission Plant Churches?

Church planting begins by identifying rural areas where there is no other church. Seminarians from the Indian Theological Seminary (ITS) are sent two by two into the villages to minister to the people.

Often churches begin by developing relationships with the people in the village. Seminarians serve as tutors for the village children and initiate a Sunday School program. This Sunday School grows into a worship center that meets under a tree or in a rented room or hut. These are called tree churches or house/hut churches. As more and more people come to Christ, a church building is established to continue to help the new believers grow in faith. These churches are named Indian Missionary Church.

A missionary pastor is then appointed to the church and charged with the responsibility of nourishing his congregation in the growing knowledge of Christ. The church also serves as a light to others in the village through ongoing evangelism ministry.

Gilgal Gospel Mission currently has 23 built churches and 8 church planting centers. Each church is approximately 800 sq. ft.
