Children's Home

Jesus said “let the children come to me and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” Matt 19:14. As Christians, we are charged by our Lord with the responsibility of caring for children in need. The Gilgal Gospel Mission Children’s Home was established to care for poor and abandoned children in India and tell them about God’s amazing love. These young ones are the future of the nation and the church.

The Children’s Home, established in 1992, was the first building owned by GGM. The home began with 7 children and has grown to care for up to 33 children.

There is an application process to be accepted into the Children’s Home. We receive many applications per year but regretfully can only accept 1 or 2 new residents, as current residents leave. Children are accepted based on the urgency of their needs.

Many children are complete orphans (without a mother or father); others come from abusive backgrounds. Still others are semi-orphans (having only a single surviving parent). A few children still have both of their parents but have been subjected to such extreme conditions of poverty that their parents could not care for them.

Most of the children are from Hindu backgrounds and have never before heard about Christ. Gilgal Gospel Mission cares for not only their physical wellbeing but also their spiritual health. All the children receive daily instruction in God’s Word along with weekly Church gatherings.
We make every effort to create a normal home environment for our children. Here's a typical day for our kids:

The older children help the younger ones in their daily activities from washing clothes to getting ready for school. The Children’s Home operates as a family with everyone participating and sharing with each other. The children attend several different schools in the surrounding area. All of the children learn English at school. Special occasions such as birthdays are a big event at the Children’s Home. Each birthday is celebrated with cake and a gift.

Visit the Meet the Children page to learn about sponsoring a child and other Special Giving Opportunities.  You can donate toward the Children's Home Birthday and Christmas presents.

Children generally leave the Home after high school. Many of them return to relatives, who now accept them because they are old enough to work. Since the Children’s Home began in 1992, 5 girls have left to be married and continue their education and 8 boys have left to begin work or continue their education. If a child has no family and no prospect of work, they will remain at the Home until they can support themselves.

The future of the Children’s Home is bright and exciting. Because of generous and loving donors, construction began in 2010 of a new Home located near the Indian Theological Seminary. The new Home will have 3500 square feet with a big yard for the kids to play. The children are very excited to move to their new residence!

Additional funds are needed to complete the construction. Learn more by clicking on the tab above.
